Amanda Brugel

Pointe Claire in Montreal's West Island is a small, sleepy town. It is a part of the island that has been called "the West Island." West Island has a lot of different communities. Many who've never known about it may think it is an island that is west-facing. The West Island is frequently referred to as the birthplace of Amanda Brugel but while that is true, her stay there was short. Brugel was raised in Courtice near Oshawa Ontario. She was determined to be professional, however due to a rapid growth spurt she outgrew the dance partners she had. An article in the Toronto Star article revealed she's 6 feet 1 inch tall and has heels. When I reached the height of the size of my male friends and stopped dancing, I quit. Brugel was one of many former dancers who turned into acting. Her high school teacher school encouraged her to take the next step. A teacher suggested that she take part in an audition for the annual school production. The teacher who suggested she go after a role in the school's annual show. This led to her being awarded a Fine Arts Talent Scholarship from York University. In 2000, she received her BA in Fine Arts at York University. The career of Brugel spans more than twenty years, and she's been in over 60 productions including big screen productions and on smaller ones. Her most recognizable role was the one of Rita (pictured beneath) in the television show The Handmaid's Tale. Brugel made an appearance on only a handful of instances in the initial season of The Handmaid's Tale. She was the sole Canadian participant.
